Regi Vadiyalu

Regi Vadiyalu are a traditional South Indian (especially Andhra Pradesh & Telangana) sun-dried snack made from regi pandu (Indian jujube / ber fruit).

Regi fruits are crushed and mixed with spices such as chili powder, salt, and sometimes cumin. This mixture is shaped into small rounds or discs and sun-dried for several days until completely dehydrated. Once dried, they can be stored for months.

When cooked, Regi Vadiyalu are usually deep-fried or shallow-fried, turning crisp on the outside with a slightly chewy center. They are commonly served as a side dish with rice, sambar, rasam, or curd, adding a unique sweet-tangy-spicy flavor to the meal.

Apart from taste, Regi Vadiyalu are valued for their digestive and cooling properties, as regi fruit is rich in fiber, iron, and antioxidants. They reflect the traditional practice of sun-drying seasonal fruits to preserve them for year-round use and are a nostalgic delicacy in many Telugu households.
